“must have for the summer 2010″

… it is something between a pair of trousers and a skirt and is called “bloomers” … with dots or in plain, bold, cheerful, comfortable … simply “bloomer”!

My girls love them and I also, as well as anything from the magical collection by the lovely and talented Valérie Chaptal and her label marie et rose alice. I feel a little bit of “soul mates“ with Valerie, perhaps because she also has 3 children, is also always busy and always spins around and, above all, because her collection fulfilled so much my dreams and desires: simple, light and a feeling of freedom … just like a “bloomer”.

It’s spring – with a touch of summer – in Northern Germany and that means wespend most of the day on the street and get everything out of the shed and the basement which is passable.

Bicycles, in-line skates, skate board, Bobby Car etc. … and I am so glad that I do not have the constant debate about helmets, because they are supposedly uncool and embarrassing, because there are now safe and really cool helmets for children, teens and us great, like the one from Nutcase … for the Street, Snow and Water, trendy, colorful, stylish and absolute protective cool.

Images are from Wiebke’s daughter :)

Wiebke has asked women from the Kids fashion industry what they see when looking out their window…what do the children wear in their neighborhoods… (part 1)

First is  Marlene Anine Holmboe from MarMar… Marlene is designer and owner from the beautiful kids fashion label MarMar and lives in one of my favorite cities in Copenhagen, Denmark.

First of all they don´t wear uniforms. So, they dress very individual, and much is allowed! You clearly note the difference on a city child and a country side child. The small school children wears more or less what mother likes :-) And that can be pretty stylish, no doubt that the city child is very cool. Slim jeans is a must for both boys and girls. For the Boys the jeans goes with sneakers  t-shits and a knitted cardigan or sweat jacket. The girls often wears a volume top to their jeans, which  can make the look a little romantic.

As soon as the school children gets a mind of their own, the boys often wears a statement T-shirt. Statements that defines them. The girls often get more rough/rock as they get older.. and also defines themselves through their clothes. Of cause a group of school children dress in sweat suits, as their favorite, but that is normally the young school children.. they prefer different labels, but most of all I think that is because of the comfort.

And Secondly is Alliot Cheng, who lives with a lovely family in Hong Kong and delights us every day with her charming blog I Z A K O O: There’s anything special about HK children … the concept of pink for girls and blue for boys is still rigid … the clothes are mostly covered with cartoon prints … girls got over decorated hair styles … Only a few local things I really love … they’re the school uniforms. They are simple and more focused on the cutting and subtle combination of materials … and, another thing is the Chinese shoes and clothes. They can be very stylish in combination of jeans …

Many thanks to both of you, that you have looked out the window for us.

I love to sit on the windowsill, in front of the house or in the street café and watch the hustle and bustle on the street. I think that every street, every place and every moment can be honest and inspiring.

For B:Kids “What to wear today” I have invited 4 beautiful women and asked them to look for us out of their windows and have asked them: ”Please take a look at the street: What is very special about the (school) children in your city?” Perhaps also connected with the small desire of mine to be able to just look at these streets of these cities at some point myself.

Today please meet Tami Nguyen Rael and Miriam Bernstein:

WtW_ismodern

Tami (Nguyen Rael) is designer and owner from the kids fashion label ismodern and lives with her family in New York City :
“Children in New York City are very lucky.  They live in a city that is diverse, vibrant, eclectic, bustling, and cultured but yet daunting, impersonal, noisy and crowded.  These good and bad exposures create independent, confident, and tolerant mini citizens.  That is the hope.”

Miriam Berstein is one of three sister, who founded the charming Israeli label Ada Ada. She lives in Tel Aviv/Israel:
“In Israel as a whole and especially in Tel Aviv (which is a very hot and humid city) the weather plays a big part of what we wear. The Tel Avivian children find creative, beautiful and funny ways to handle the heat and humidity which rule for the majority of the year. You can see them for example wearing extra big clothes of their siblings and fold them endless folds so they fit them in length but hardly touch them. Because they dislike hats (apparently it is no longer “cool” once your past 6 years old) they take old, worn out shirts of their parents and rap them around their heads (like the “CAFIA” from the Arabic culture). So in general you can see that they use their imagination, are influenced from cultures that are masters of dealing with heat- all to keep a little bit of chillness and their own chick. :)

I have a bunch of daughters. Three to be exact. Eight, six and one. We often disagree, only in one case we agree: we love angels and fairies  (…and mermaids, of course). Because they can fly, because they can fulfill wishes and dreams, because they are timeless and take us on a journey into another world.

In search of angels wings, I found the wonderful French collection of Comme du Coton. A mix of classic cuts and simple materials.

The angel wings were a part of the Advent Calendar my girls and I made. They come with us ever since as a beautiful accessory and can be worn again and again on various events.

Simply adorable…Let them Eat Cake… this young funny and fresh kids wear label from the designer Felicity Lynch from Barth in England. And now Let them Eat Cakehas joined forces with 2 talented British artists, Annie Kevans and Stella Vinein order to create T-Shirts for THE ENVIROMENTAL JUSTICE FOUNDATION CHARITY (EJF campaigns internationally on the issues their grassroots partners work locally to solve including cotton production, pirate fishing, shrimp farming, pesticides, wildlife and climate refugees.)

Stellavine

The T-shirt designsfeature iconic images, including John Lennon and Yoko Ono and a young Britney Spears and are sympathetic to the vintage style of Let them eat cake. The designs are printed on the best quality and ethical T-Shirts by American Apparel and are all hand printed in Barth/England.

They made their debut at Bubble London 2010and will be available through the EJF website shopsoon and other website boutiques.

I think a wonderful project to supporting.
